Before you can successfully configure and apply a work shift sequence to your scheduling resources, you must complete the preliminary configuration of the shifts master data. This foundational data defines the daily working hours required to build the sequence.
Core Concepts & Differences
To accurately set up the resource calendars, it is essential to understand how these four core components differ and interact within the system:
-
Work Shift Template: This is the master data configuration used to define a single unit of daily working hours (e.g., standard hours, specific time slots for field activities) for an Operations Center.
-
Work Shift Sequence: A structured combination or rotation of defined shift templates applied over a specific, repeating timeframe (e.g., a 7-day or 14-day rotation). It dictates how multiple shifts chain together over a set number of days.
-
Work Shift Matrix: While a Template defines a single day and a Sequence chains days together, a Matrix serves as the broader structural grid or framework that maps these sequences across multiple resource groups or operational timelines simultaneously.
-
Work Shift Registry: This is the finalized execution log or historical record where the assigned shifts and sequences are officially logged and tracked against individual scheduling resources for actual operational days.
Define the Shifts Master Data (Template)
Prior to creating a sequence, you must define the individual daily shifts.
-
Navigate to: MAIN MENU → FEATURES → CORE → RESOURCE MANAGEMENT → RESOURCES WORK CALENDAR → NEW
-
Select the Operations Center.
-
Enter the Description and specify the Days to establish the baseline daily working hours.
Configure the Work Shift Sequence
Once the master shifts are established, you can chain them into a sequence:
-
Navigate to: MAIN MENU → FEATURES → CORE → RESOURCE MANAGEMENT → RESOURCES WORK CALENDAR → WORK SHIFT SEQUENCE → NEW SEQUENCE
-
Fill out the required configuration fields:
-
Operations Center
-
Code
-
Number of days (the duration of the sequence cycle)
-
Description
-
Apply to the Resource Calendar
After completing the prerequisites above, you can officially assign the sequence to your field resources:
-
Navigate to: MAIN MENU → FEATURES → CORE → RESOURCE MANAGEMENT → RESOURCES WORK CALENDAR
-
Select your Operations Center to view the resources belonging to that center.
-
Click the assignment icon, select your newly created Work Shift Sequence, and drag-and-drop it onto the specific calendar days for the designated resource.
