Manage Vehicles

To prevent delays and accurately account for travel time, keep track of technicians’ mode of travel, their speed, and the type of vehicle.

For example, it is important to differentiate between a technician that drives a heavy bucket truck, another that uses a standard service van, or one that walks to work. When you create a vehicle and associate it with a specific scheduling resource, the estimated travel time adjusts based on the parameters of what technicians drive. You can also use your vehicle records to manage fleet costs, utilization, and associated warehouse inventory.

In practice

A utility operations center uses both standard pickup trucks and heavy-duty cranes. The administrator creates a vehicle record for a crane and assigns it to a heavy-maintenance technician's profile. To ensure the technician has enough travel time between appointments, the automatic scheduling algorithm automatically calculates slower travel times between work orders for that technician.

After the job, the technician logs in 4 hours that they actively used the crane and that utilization data goes back to the operations center.
