Manage facility types | OverIT Knowledge Hub

Audience: Administrators, dispatchers

To organize facilities that you use in the application, configure your facility types.

Prerequisites

Before you start:

To set up assets and their data, see Structure asset data.
To understand different facility types, see Understand facility types.

Follow the UI path

All following instructions start from this system path:

Configuration > Core > Asset Management > Facility Types

Search for a facility type

To find an existing facility type:

On the Search facility types page, in the Filter panel, enter desired parameters.
Click Search.

Add a new facility type

To distinguish facilities, create a new facility type:

On the Search facility types page, click the + New button.
Select one option:
- New facility type.
- New consumer type.
- New owner type.
- New family type.
- To understand the different types, see Understand facility types.
In the new page, enter desired parameters.

- Optional: If linear types are enabled, you can check the linear asset flag. If the flag is unchecked, the asset is punctual.

Click Save.

Understand facility type configuration fields

Facility types have four types of configurations:

General: The basic identification and display properties of the facility type.
Core: How the asset behaves, what data it holds, and how it interacts with other system features.
Specialized: Parameters for specific, non-standard asset handling.
Mobile: Critical settings that regulate data synchronization, performance, and field visibility on mobile.

Field	Type	Required	Description
Code	General	Yes	The data type’s unique internal code.
External code	General	No	Used for integrations. This code maps the NGP master data to external systems that use your asset registry.
Description	General	Yes	The data type’s description.
Entity type	Core	No	Defines the foundational data model. Options include: Equipment: Individual, physical assets like meters. Functional location: Logical or physical spaces like stations that build hierarchies.
Catalog profile	Core	No	Determines the available catalog codes to create this type’s notifications.
Allowed technical object status	Core	No	Defines the specific statuses users can select for this asset type.
Order	General	No	Defines the order of the facility type in dropdown menus.
Icon & color	General	No	Visually distinguish this facility type across the application interface.
Linear asset	Specialized	No	Define assets that form a line (such as pipelines, roads, or railways). Note: Unless the linear asset management module is active, this checkbox is disabled by default.
Fictitious technical object	Specialized	No	Designates the facility type as a placeholder asset. For example, it assigns a fictitious facility type to automatically generated work orders (WOs) when the external system doesn’t know its facility type.
Active	Specialized	No	Indicates if the facility type is visible and can be selected.
Synchronization levels	Mobile	No	Defines how many levels of the asset's hierarchy are downloaded to the mobile app: 0 = none. -1 = all levels. Important: When the synchronization level is -1, the entire asset hierarchy synchronizes to the mobile device. If the hierarchy is large (1000’s of assets), the app runs slower and syncs take longer.
Synchronizable on field	Mobile	No	When enabled, the data for this facility type is packaged and synced to the mobile device for offline use.
Operating centers excluded	Mobile	No	Hides this specific facility type from technicians assigned to these selected operating centers.
Consultable in working	Mobile	No	Allows field technicians to view, search, and consult this facility type in the mobile app while actively executing a WO.
