Create technical objects

Audience: Administrators and dispatchers

To add a new technicial object asset to your system, you need to define its master data, location, and specific features. The components or elements of your technical objects are often referred to as facilities.

Prerequisites

Before you start, define the high-level types, statuses, and hierarchical rules that govern assets. To define facility types, see Configure asset data.

Follow the UI path

All following instructions start from this system path:

Features > Core > Asset Management > Technical Object Search

Add a new technical object

To add a new technical object, define its identity, location, and technical attributes:

  1. On the Technical object search page, click + New.

  2. On the Personal data tab, enter:

    • Code: The object’s unique internal ID.

    • Facility type: The technical object’s facility type.

    • Town: The object’s city.

    • Any desired information.

  3. Click Save.

Note: The system automatically runs validation checks. If a mandatory feature is missing or a value violates a configured condition for that facility type, the system prompts you with an error message to correct the data before you save.

Add coordinates

To assign coordinates to your facility: 

  1. In the Normalized address section, click the Coordinates manual input icon.

  2. In the Coordinates materials window, enter:

    • Latitude.

    • Longitude.

  3. To save the coordinates, click Ok.

  4. On the Facility detail page, click Save.

Add a feature

To manually apply specific features relevant to this facility type:

  1. In the List of facility features table, click the + Add feature button.

  2. In the Add default feature window, click the desired feature.

  3. Click Ok.

  4. On the Facility detail page, click Save.

Copy features from a template

To use a template’s pre-configured set of features and values:

  1. In the List of facility features table, click the Copy values from template button.

  2. In the Select template window, select a facility template from the dropdown.

  3. Click Ok.

  4. On the Facility detail page, click Save.

Note: When you select a template, it overwrites any existing, undefined feature values with those from the template.

Edit features

Important: Features flagged as “Read only” cannot be edited.

To update the data of a feature tied to your new asset:

  1. In the List of facility features table, click on a feature that isn’t marked as read-only.

  2. In the Edit feature value window, change the information.

  3. Click Ok.

  4. On the Facility detail page, click Save.

Remove a feature

To delete a feature from the facility:

  1. In the List of facility features, click the Trash icon next to a row.

  2. Click Save.

Add multimedia attachments

To upload relevant files, schematics, or photos to the system to the facility record:

  1. In the Search technical object table, find the desired technical object.

  2. Click the Three dots menu > Display.

  3. On the Facility detail page, click the Multimedia attachments button.

  4. In the File list, click the Load file icon.

  5. In the main data section, click the Choose file button.

  6. In your File explorer, select a document from your local machine.

  7. Click Open.

  8. In the Upload file window, click Load file

  9. In the File type field, select the file type from the dropdown menu.

  10. Click Save.
