Audience: Administrators
Create a standardized inventory of generic tool types to later add specific tools for jobs and work orders. With clear classification categories, you can easily search and manage your organization’s equipment.
Prerequisites
Before you start:

Define the company's tool hierarchy strategy.

Ensure you have administrative access to the configuration and core menus.
UI path
All instructions start on this system path:
Configuration > Core > Tool Management
Create a tool type
Important: Categorization doesn’t define a tool’s location or quantity.
To establish high-level tool classifications:

From Tool management, in the left panel, click Tool types.

On the bottom, click New tool type.

In the Insert tool type window, enter:

Code: A numerical code to identify this tool type.

Order: A numerical ranking of how common the tool type is.

Description: A written description, such as a car or truck for a vehicle.

Visible: A checkbox that indicates if the tool type should be visible.

Click Insert.
Create a tool category
To further classify your tool types:

From Tool management, in the left panel, click Tool categories.

On the bottom, click + New tool category.

In the Insert tool categories window, enter:

Code: A numerical code to identify this tool type.

Order: A numerical ranking of how common the tool type is.

Description: A written description, such as a service vehicle or a dump truck.

Visible: A checkbox that indicates if the tool type should be visible.

Click Insert.
Configure the tool master data
Important: You must create a tool type and a tool category before you register a new generic tool.
Once types and categories are established, register the generic tools in the global master data inventory:

Navigate to Features > Core > Tool Management > Tools.

Click the New button.

In the Tools management window, enter:

Code: The unique identifier for the tool class.

Description: A clear description of the tool.
-
Validity start and Validity end: The tool’s active status timeframe.

Tool type: A general tool category.
-
Tool category: A more specific tool category.

Click Confirm.
