Configure asset characteristics classes

Audience: Administrators, dispatchers

Classes group related characteristics together and help divide assets into meaningful categories. For example, each of these classes are used differently:

• Electrical specifications.

• Physical dimensions.

• Maintenance requirements.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you know how to structure assets, see Structure asset data.

Follow the UI path

All following instructions start from this system path:

Configuration > Core > Additional Parameters > Characteristics > Characteristic Classes

Add a new characteristics class

To add a new class of characteristics:

1. Go to the Characteristic classes page.

2. At the bottom, click the + New characteristic class button.

3. Enter:

   • Code: The alphanumeric code of the characteristics class.

   • Description: The characteristics class description.

   • Sorting: The order of the characteristic class in a dropdown menu.

   • Characteristic class type: Select either:

     • Facilities.

     • Materials.

   • Visible: Whether to make the characteristics class visible to users.

4. Click Save.

Edit characteristics class

To edit a class of characteristics:

1. In the Filters panel, enter relevant search parameters.

2. Click Search.

3. In the List of characteristics classes table, next to the desired characteristics class, click the Three dots menu.

4. Click Edit feature class.

5. Edit the characteristics class’s information as needed.

6. Click Save.
