To accurately calculate travel time and distances for your crews, you must define both a geographical starting point (departure) and an ending point (arrival) for each of your Crew Shells.
Prerequisites
-
Make sure that you’ve configured your Crew Shells.
-
Understand the concept of Crew Shells.
-
If you plan to define new addresses, confirm that the Google geocoding service is set up in your NextGen FSM environment.
Access Crew Shell Address Management
-
Navigate to the Crew Shells interface (Main Menu > Features > Core > Resource Management > Crew Shells).
-
From the Crew Shell List, select the specific Crew Shell for which you want to manage addresses.
-
In the Crew Shell details page, navigate to the Addresses section.
Define Crew Shell Departure and Arrival Points
You have three options for setting a crew's departure and arrival points. You can use different addresses for the departure and arrival points if needed. You have three primary methods to define these addresses:
-
Use an Address Already Associated with the Crew Shell.
-
Use an Address Already Associated with the Operations Center.
-
Define a New Address.
Use an Address Associated with the Crew Shell
If you've already defined addresses for this specific crew shell, you can select one from the list.
-
In the Addresses associated with the Crew Shell panel, find the address you want to use.
-
Check the Departure point box to set it as the starting location.
-
Check the Arrival Point box to set it as the end-of-day destination.
-
Map and Edit: You can click the magnifying glass icon to see the address on a map or the pencil icon to edit its details.
Use an Address Associated with the Organization (Operations Center)
This is a good option if your crews often start or end their days at a main office or warehouse.
-
Go to the Address associated with organization tab.
-
Find the address you need from the list.
-
Indicate whether it’s the departure point, arrival point, or both..
Create a New Address for the Crew Shell
If the address you need doesn't exist in the system, you can create a new one.
-
Go to the New Address tab.
-
Fill in the address details (street, city, zip code, and so on). The system automatically uses the Google geocoding service to find the exact coordinates.
-
The location appears on a map. If you need to adjust it, drag the point on the map or manually enter the latitude and longitude coordinates.
-
After the address is correct, check the Departure point or Arrival Point box to assign it to the crew shell.
Next Steps
You now know how to manage a crew shell's addresses, ensuring your teams have accurate starting and ending points for their day. This is an important step to ensure precise travel calculations and optimized scheduling.
You can now:
-
View and Manage Crew Shells in the Daily Plan: See how these defined addresses influence the travel calculations and routing of your Crew Shells for scheduled activities. Refer to .
-
Manage Crew Shell Work Shifts: Understand how shift definitions might interact with the defined departure and arrival points.
-
Configure Geocoding Service: For more information on setting up and configuring the Google geocoding service in NextGen FSM, refer to the relevant Technical Documentation on Geocoding Service Configuration.
