The Resource Management module allows an FSM Desktop user to define their company’s workforce in the field. This includes individual workers (referred to as Resources in the FSM), Teams of Resources, the geographical areas to which a Resource is assigned, a Resource's Skills and Qualifications, and a Resource’s availability in the Resource Work Calendar.
To learn more about the operational territories (including Operations Centers) and the cartographic data that this module builds off of, read about the FSM’s Core Configuration. To learn more about the units of work that Resources carry out, read about the Work Order Management module.
The main entities in the Resource Management module are defined below. Click the name of the entity to read more about it on that entity’s main page.
Resource Management Basics
Resource - A worker out in the field, a technician. Resources are the people who carry out Work Orders. A Resource is affiliated with one particular Operations Center, and is classified into categories called Resource Types (e.g. “Internal” or “External”).
Team - A group of Resources, who will carry out Work Orders together. A fixed, predefined team. Classified into categories called Team Types.
Formation - A combination of desired Skills and scheduling details that’s used to dynamically form a team, using an algorithm that chooses from a set of Resources.
Resource Loan - A scheduled, temporary transfer of a Resource from one Operations Center to another.
Crew Shell - An “empty” Team which can be assigned Work Orders. Resources can be assigned to the Crew Shell later, inheriting that shell’s Work Orders. Classified into categories called Crew Shell Types.
Vehicle - A physical vehicle associated with an Operations Center, used to move Resources to work sites. Classified into categories called Vehicle Types.
Configuring Operational Territories
Scheduling Area - A territorial subdivision of an Operations Center. They enable the automatic scheduling of Resources within a specific subdivision of an Operations Center.
Assigning Skills, Qualifications, and Roles
These entities help keep track of what work a Resource is capable of performing. This can help with schedule optimization.
Skill - A proficiency that can be assigned to a Resource. Skills can be associated with Skill Divisions and Skill Configurations.
Qualification - A license/certification that can be assigned to a Resource.
Role - A description of a job, that can be assigned to a Resource.
Configuring the Work Calendar
Absence Reason - A reason that explains the absence of a Resource from a Work Shift (e.g. “Sick” or “Training”).
Availability/Unavailability Validation Class - A Resource’s availability status (e.g. “Absence” or “Presence”).
Clocking Type - A reason for a change in a Resource’s availability, marked by their “clocking in” in the Mobile App (e.g. “Shift Start” or “Lunch Break End”).
Holiday - A day off, assigned at the Operations Center level. These can be yearly or weekly holidays.
Municipal Holiday - A day off, assigned at the Municipality level. Can be unique, or recurrent.
Scheduling Resources
Work Shift - An assignable duration of work within a day. Has specific start/end times. Associated with an Operations Center. Work Shifts describe amounts of time, independent of either a specific Resource or a specific Work Order.
On Duty Availability Shift - A non-standard Work Shift that describes the need for a Resource to be available or “on call,” as opposed to engaged in normal work.
