Clone a hypothesis

Audience: Dispatchers and planners

To quickly test new scenarios for your plan, clone an existing hypothesis. Create improved versions of your hypothesis. Keep your original scenarios intact while you experiment with different versions of a hypothesis.

Example scenario

A project team may want to reuse the structure of an existing river-crossing simulation for a new planning cycle, a new geographic area, or a new set of assumptions. For example, a utility company evaluates different options to cross the Ohio River with a gas transportation pipeline. The planning team already has a hypothesis called “Balanced route” which balances cost, technical feasibility, and environmental impact. The team wants to evaluate a slightly different version of the same route without losing the original hypothesis. When the user clones “Balanced route”, the system creates “Balanced route copy” which can be edited and saved. Now the user can compare the modified copy with the original hypothesis.

Clone a hypothesis

To create a new hypothesis based on an existing one:

  1. Click the Modules icon.

  2. In the Module management window, select a simulation module.

  3. In the Simulation section, click on a simulation row.

  4. On the Hypothesis tab, click the hypothesis you want to use as the starting point.

    • Note: The selected hypothesis already contains the configuration, branch version, service association, and planning context needed for the analysis.

  5. In the next window, at the top right, click the Clone hypothesis icon.

Note: In the Hypothesis tab, the clone will have “copy” added to its name.

Modify a cloned hypothesis

See Create a hypothesis | Edit a hypothesis.

Review a cloned hypothesis

To see the details of the independent clone:

  1. On the Hypothesis tab, click the cloned hypothesis.

  2. In the updated window, inspect:

    • Description.

    • Related service.

    • Branch version.

    • Layers.

    • Attribute table.
