Create a hypothesis

When you create a simulation scenario, create a hypothesis that should be used as the starting point. Hypotheses contain:

• Configuration.

• Branch version.

• Service association.

• Planning context.

Prerequisite

Before you create a hypothesis:

• See Create a simulation.

Understand the hypothesis lifecycle

Each hypothesis follows a defined lifecycle:

• Working: The hypothesis is newly created and fully editable.

• Approved: The hypothesis has been approved and its data is merged into the default version of the service.

• Rejected: The hypothesis has been discarded and is no longer applicable.

Create a hypothesis

To add a hypothesis:

1. Click the Modules icon.

2. In the Module management window, select a simulation module.

3. In the Simulation section, select a simulation.

4. Click the Hypothesis tab.

5. Click the New hypothesis button.

6. In the Configuration panel, enter:

   • Name.

   • Description.

7. Click Save.

8. Select the hypothesis.

   • The new hypothesis has the “Working” status.

9. Click the layer you want to edit.

10. Click Start editing.

11. Make the required changes. 

    • Note: All edits are restricted to the simulation AOI.

12. Click Save.

Edit a hypothesis

To test variations while preserving the source hypothesis:

1. Click the Modules icon.

2. In the Module management window, select a simulation module.

3. In the Simulation section, select a simulation.

4. Click the Hypothesis tab.

5. In the desired hypothesis’s row, click Edit.

6. Make your required geometry or attribute adjustments.

7. Click Save.

Delete a hypothesis

Audience: Administrators

Important: 

• This action requires confirmation and is permanent. 

• When a simulation is deleted, the hypotheses and linked geodatabase branch versions are removed as well.

To delete a hypothesis:

1. Click the Modules icon.

2. In the Module management window, select a module.

3. In the Simulation section, select a simulation.

4. Click the Hypothesis tab.

5. In the list, next to the hypothesis you want to delete, click the Delete icon.
