Audience: All users
Understand how the Field Execution module behaves when opened while a work order data import from NextGen FSM is running, after an import has failed, or when data has not yet been imported.
Prerequisites
Before you start:
-
Ensure an administrator has configured the module and initiated a data import (see Configure the Field Execution module).
-
To track background task status, see Task Monitoring.
Understand import status impacts
The Field Execution module relies on a cached dataset of work orders, operations, and technical objects imported from NextGen FSM. Module availability depends directly on the state of the latest import:
|
Last import state |
Module availability |
Behavior |
|
Completed |
Full access |
The module opens normally with all capabilities enabled. |
|
Scheduled / In progress |
Read-only |
You can open the module after confirming a warning dialog. Data creation tools are disabled. |
|
Failed |
Blocked |
The module cannot be opened until a successful import completes. |
|
Never run |
Blocked |
The module cannot be opened until an initial data import runs. |
Open the module while an import is in progress
If you attempt to open the module while an import task is scheduled or running:
-
A system message displays:
A work order data import is currently in progress, so the displayed data may be incomplete or inconsistent. Do you want to open the module anyway? -
Click Confirm to open the module in read-only mode, or click Cancel to exit.
When opened in read-only mode:
-
A notification banner remains visible:
A work order data import is in progress: the displayed data may be incomplete or inconsistent. -
You can search, browse, and inspect existing cached work orders, operations, and technical objects.
-
Creating new work orders is disabled. The New Work Order button displays as inactive regardless of user permissions.
-
Once the import completes, close and reopen the module to restore full access and load the complete dataset.
Open the module after a failed import
If the last import task fails, the module remains inaccessible to all users and displays the error message: The last work order data import failed, so it is not possible to open the module.
To restore module access:
-
An administrator must resolve the task error and complete the import.
-
Because imports process in pages and track progress, the task can be resumed rather than restarted from the beginning (see Task Monitoring).
-
Once the import completes successfully, module access restores automatically for all users.
Open a module with no imported data
If an import has never been executed for the module, the system displays the error message: Import is not available for this module. Go on the configuration and try to import the work orders data.
To enable the module:
-
Open the Module management window and locate the module configuration.
-
Save the module configuration and select Yes when prompted to run the initial data import (see Configure the Field Execution module).
