Modules

Audience: All users

This topic explains how to open, filter, switch, and dock modules using the Module management window.

Understand modules

Modules are self-contained sub-applications inside NextGen Geo. Each module provides a specific set of capabilities—such as network management, dashboards, reports, field execution, or scenario planning—along with dedicated map services, panels, and tools.

Depending on system configuration, you can keep multiple modules open simultaneously or work in one module exclusively. When you finish using a module, close it to return to the primary application.

Understand the Module management window

Open the Module management window by clicking Modules in the navigation bar. The window docks to the right edge of the map and provides the following controls:

Note: Modules unavailable in your current context display as disabled and cannot be opened.

Open a module

  1. In the navigation bar on the main page, click Modules. The Module management window opens.

  2. In the list, click the module you want to open.

Switch between open modules

  1. In the header of the Module management window, click the Module switcher drop-down menu.

  2. Select the open module you want to display.

  3. Optional: To return to the full module list, select All modules.

To close an open module directly from the drop-down menu:

  1. Click the Module switcher drop-down menu.

  2. Next to the target module, click Close.

Filter the module list

  1. In the Search name field, enter part of the module name.

  2. Optional: Click Filters to refine the search:

    • Tags: Restricts the list to selected categories.

    • Only enabled: Hides modules that cannot be opened in your current context.

  3. Optional: Click Filters again to collapse the extra filter options and save vertical space.

Understand window docking

By default, the Module management window docks to the right edge of the map. Docking reserves a strip of the screen so map features and controls remain visible and centered in the unblocked viewport area.

Action

Pinned

Window is docked to the right edge.

Click to release the window as a floating panel.

Unpinned

Window is floating freely.

Click to dock the window to the right edge.

Docked window behavior

  • Map centering: Zooming to features, extents, search results, or module list items places targets in the visible area to the left of the window rather than behind it.

  • Map controls: Controls on the right side of the map shift into the visible viewport area.

  • Window resizing: The window remains anchored to the right edge when resizing the browser window or toggling secondary map views.

  • Multiple docked windows: If multiple right-docked windows open (such as Module management, Editor control center, or Documents), the reserved strip matches the width of the widest window. The reserved area never exceeds 60% of total map width.

  • Floating & hidden states: Docking offsets automatically clear when a window is minimized, maximized, closed, or floating.

Dock or release the window

To release a docked window:

  • In the header, click Pinned. Alternatively, drag the window away from the right edge and drop it.

To dock a floating window:

  • In the header, click Unpinned. Alternatively, drag the window to the right edge of the map and release it.
