Audience: All users
Understand how work orders (WOs), operations, and technical objects display on the map and stay synchronized with the Field Execution module panel.
Prerequisites
Before you start:
-
Ensure an administrator has configured the Field Execution module (see Configure the Field Execution module).
-
Ensure your user account is assigned to the appropriate zone linked to the module (see Users and permissions). If access is restricted, the system displays:
You don’t have access to this module because your user is configured for a different zone.
Understand map layers and synchronization
When you open the Field Execution module, the system adds two services to the Table of Contents (TOC) and keeps the panel and map view synchronized:
-
FSM Work Orders: Displays cached work orders and individual operations. By default, only the operations layer is visible to focus on specific tasks; the main work order layer is hidden.
-
FSM Technical Objects: Displays cached assets beneath the operations layer so task markers remain visible above linked features.
Because these layers function as standard map services, you can interact with them directly through the Table of Contents using standard map tools—such as the Info widget or selection tools—to retrieve additional information.

Panel action |
Map behavior |
|
Open module or update list filters |
Displays only work orders and operations matching current filter criteria. |
|
Select a work order in the list |
Highlights the corresponding work order geometry on the map. |
|
Open work order details |
Filters map display to show only elements linked to the selected work order. |
|
Select an operation |
Highlights the specific operation geometry on the map. |
|
Select an associated technical object |
Highlights the asset geometry on the map. |
|
Return to work order list |
Restores map display for all work orders in the filtered list. |
Note: Operations or technical objects lacking geometry display alphanumeric data in the panel, but cannot be highlighted or centered on the map.
Understand thematic styling
The operations layer supports three default map themes:
|
Theme |
Description |
|
Cluster |
Groups nearby operations into single clustered symbols displaying task counts (default view). |
|
By status code |
Assigns distinct symbols to operations based on operational status (for example, scheduled, in-progress, completed). |
|
Heatmap |
Displays workload density across geographic regions. |
Technical objects style by type code by default to distinguish asset classifications. Administrators can customize default and available themes in Service Configuration.
Understand the legend
The panel legend updates dynamically based on active map themes and current selections. It displays only the statuses, types, and elements visible in your current work order list or detailed record view.
