Use Case 1: Map Sharing for Work Plans

Objective: Provide field operators with customized maps featuring services and annotations necessary for conducting specific field activities, thereby enhancing work efficiency and accuracy.

Primary Actors: Field Service Manager, Field Operators.

Preconditions:

  • The Field Service Manager has access to NextGen Geo.

  • Updated data regarding linear assets and services is available

Main Flow:

  1. Map Creation:

    • The Field Service Manager logs into NextGen Geo.

    • Selects the linear assets and services to be included on the map.

    • Adds specific annotations for the task, such as operational details, restrictions, and points of attention.

  2. Map Customization:

    • Depending on the activity, the Field Service Manager may decide to include additional informational layers, like expected weather conditions or traffic information.

    • Defines the optimal zoom level and perspective to facilitate the operator's interpretation.

  3. Map Sharing:

    • Once the map is completed, the Field Service Manager selects the sharing option within the application itself.

    • Chooses the operator or team of operators who will receive the map.

    • Tell the operators to open the map inside their own “shared maps” space.

  4. Field Use of the Map:

    • Operators receive the map and consult it using his own browser, for example entering the system and searching for shared projects or by using a link provided by the Field Service Manager.

    • They use the mapped annotations and services to navigate to intervention sites and perform tasks in an informed manner.

Postconditions:

  • The operator has completed the task using the information provided through the map.

  • The map can be updated or archived for future reference or reporting.

Benefits:

  • The map provides accurate and up-to-date information enabling the operator to efficiently perform the task.

  • Communication between the Field Service Manager and operators is clear and timely, allowing for quick resolution of any issues.

This use case aims to leverage the power of GIS to improve the planning and execution of Field Service activities, maximizing operational efficiency and minimizing field errors.
