About ESRI licenses for FSM Mobile

To integrate ESRI capabilities into FSM Mobile, you must have specific licenses to be compliant and ensure the products work together. These licenses dictate what data and map features users can access within the FSM Mobile app.

Learn about ESRI license types

  1. Runtime License: This determines the map features that the end-user can access within the FSM Mobile app.

    • There are four levels that provide everything from basic maps and geolocation to advanced spatial analysis and geoprocessing tools.

    • For customers who don’t access private ESRI data, a runtime license string is typically provided from ESRI.

  2. API Key: An API key is a lightweight authentication method that allows FSM Mobile apps to access public ESRI services without direct user authentication.

    • It accesses public ESRI data like basemaps and geocoding.

    • It’s ideal when only public data access is needed and user authentication can't be used.

    • When you exceed usage limits in the free tier for public basemaps, you must purchase additional credits from ESRI.

  3. Mobile Worker License (User Authentication): This is designed for field personnel who collect, edit, and update geospatial data while in the field.

    • This is associated with the "Field Worker" user type in ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.

    • To access a customer's private ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise data, user authentication (ArcGIS Identity) is required to secure customer-specific data within their organization.

Secure private data with mobile user authentication

Mobile User Authentication (via a Mobile Worker License) is strongly recommended for ESRI customers who have private customer data integrated with FSM Mobile. Users get:

  • Access to private secured customer data within their ArcGIS organization along with proprietary map layers and information.

  • Access to more features like offline basemaps (TPK/MMPK) and the ability to work with private datasets for services like geocoding and routing.

  • All licensing information and access privileges from their ArcGIS ID.

    • Users securely authenticate through OAuth 2.0 and don’t directly handle or store their credentials.

    • Once users log in, they inherit all features and services related to their organizational role.

  • Seamless integration with federated identity providers.

    • Users only need to log in once to access both FSM Mobile app and secure ESRI services if a customer's Identity Provider (IdP) is already federated with the ESRI IdP.
