Assign skills, qualifications, and roles

Manage the resource’s expertise and abilities as they relate to Work Orders (WOs). Add the expertise needed for a WO to the task. Associate this expertise with resources when assigning WOs.

Understand skills

FSM Desktop uses the following logic for matching skills with WOs during scheduling: depending on how the scheduling is performed:

  • Manual Scheduling: If a dispatcher attempts to drag an activity onto a resource that lacks the required skills, the system generates a warning. The dispatcher can choose to override this if necessary.

  • Automatic Scheduling: The scheduling engine treats skills as a blocker. It will never automatically assign a task to a resource or team that does not meet 100% of the skill requirements.

Access resource skills

To access master data for a resource’s skills, navigate to Configuration > Core > Skill Management > Skills.

To assign skills to a resource, navigate to Features > Core > Scheduling Configuration > Resource Management > Resources and click Skills, Qualifications and Roles.

Understand ualifications

Qualifications are an additional, optional element.

In specific situations, the actual allocation of a resource with a given skill may depend on the certificate/license (qualification) that enables that skill. For example:

  • Skill:

    • Crane maneuver and lifting machine on the work on site;

  • Required Qualification:

    • Valid driving license;

    • Special vehicle driver certificate.

Understand roles

Furthermore, one or more Roles may be assigned to a resource. The role identifies the job and is for information purposes only.

Through the "Roles" feature available at path > Configuration > Core > Skill Management > Roles, the user can configure the roles that can be assigned to resources to perform activities in the field.
